Mahim: A Young Dreamer from Korail

Support Posted on Sat, April 04, 2026 13:50:10

At Alingan Foundation, we believe that every child deserves a chance to thrive, regardless of the circumstances they are born into. Through education sponsorship and heartfelt storytelling, we aim to empower slum children in Bangladesh to overcome hardship and follow their dreams.

Md Junayed Mahim is one of those children whose story inspires hope and action. Born on 21 September 2016, Mahim has been living with his mother, Mrs. Marium Begum, in the cramped lanes of Korail Matir Rasta, one of Dhaka’s largest slum areas. Life for Mahim and his mother is not easy. His father does not live with them, leaving all responsibilities on his mother’s shoulders. She works as a homeworker, earning just enough to cover basic needs and Mahim’s education.

Despite the challenges of financial hardship and limited space, Mahim’s determination to learn has never wavered. Every morning, he walks to school with dreams bigger than the tiny room he calls home. Mahim’s mother believes education is the only way to break the long-standing cycle of poverty and has instilled in him the value of knowledge and perseverance. She wants Mahim to have opportunities she never had.

Mahim is currently in Class 04, and his dream is to become an engineer. This dream is not just a wish for a career—it is a hope for a future where he can create a better life for himself and honor the sacrifices of his mother. Growing up without his father and facing the challenges of a single-parent household, Mahim’s resilience and determination stand as a testament to his inner strength.

Mahim’s story reminds us that poverty does not define potential. With the right support, children like him can achieve extraordinary things. Every small act of kindness—every contribution to their education—creates ripples of change that can transform lives.

We invite you to be part of Mahim’s journey.

Spreading Love Through Iftar at Korail Slum

Uncategorised Posted on Thu, March 26, 2026 11:33:53

Ramadan is a month of compassion, giving, and sharing, and this year, Alingan Foundation brought these values to life in the heart of Dhaka’s Korail slum. The foundation organized a special Iftar for the children living there – children who often do not have access to nutritious meals or the simple joys that many of us take for granted.

The event was more than just a meal. It was a moment of connection, warmth, and hope. The children’s faces lit up as they received plates full of delicious food – something many of them don’t get to enjoy every day. From fruits to traditional Iftar items, the spread was colorful, filling, and made with love.

Seeing their innocent smiles and hearing their laughter reminded everyone present that happiness doesn’t always come from abundance but from sharing what we have. The joy and gratitude of these children were priceless.

Such moments reinforce the importance of community support and compassion. Even a small act of kindness can bring light into someone’s life, especially in places where everyday survival is a struggle.

Alingan Foundation hopes this event inspires others to extend their hands to the less fortunate, to share love, and to make a difference, no matter how small. Because sometimes, the greatest gift we can give is a smile.

Let’s continue to spread kindness and make every child feel loved, cared for, and seen.

Poverty Cannot Stop Alpona’s Dream

Support Posted on Fri, February 13, 2026 09:15:06

At Alingan Foundation, we believe that every child deserves the opportunity to learn, dream, and grow — regardless of where they are born. Through education sponsorship and documentary storytelling, we work to amplify the voices of children living in underserved communities across Bangladesh. One of those voices belongs to Azmi Akter Alpona.

Born on 2 November 2011, Alpona lives with her family on Nurani Masjid Road in Korail Slum. Like many children growing up in densely populated informal settlements, her early life has been shaped by financial hardship. Yet within this environment, her determination stands out.

Alpona is currently studying in Class 4. She approaches her studies with seriousness and hope, understanding that education may be her strongest bridge toward a different future. Her schoolbooks are more than pages filled with lessons – they represent possibility.

Her mother, Mrs. Ruksana Begum, works as a home-based worker and carries the responsibility of being the sole earner in the family. Her father, Md Azizul Hoque, aged 50, previously worked in a hotel but currently does not have a job. With only one income sustaining the household, managing daily expenses is difficult. Rent, food, school costs – each demand careful balance.

For Alpona, the family’s financial struggle is not abstract. She sees her mother’s long hours and quiet sacrifices. She understands that continuing her education requires effort not only from herself but from her entire family. The pressure is real. The uncertainty is constant.

Yet she refuses to surrender her dream.

Alpona wants to become a doctor. Her aspiration is not based on prestige but on purpose. Growing up in a community where access to healthcare can be limited, she has seen how deeply illness can affect families. She hopes one day to serve people with compassion and skill, offering care where it is most needed.

The road to becoming a doctor is long and demanding, especially for a child facing financial instability. Still, Alpona studies with discipline. She nurtures her creativity through dancing and art – activities that allow her to express joy even amid challenges. These talents reveal her vibrant spirit and emotional resilience.

Her story reflects a larger truth: potential exists everywhere, but opportunity does not. Children like Alpona carry dreams that deserve protection and support. With the right guidance and sponsorship, those dreams can grow into real impact.

Alingan Foundation shares her story not to evoke pity, but to highlight dignity, courage, and the transformative power of education.

A Chair Full of Hope: Alingan’s Story of Joy and Learning

Activities Posted on Wed, November 12, 2025 13:56:46
Alingan students

At Alingan, every small step brings a big smile. Recently, we captured a beautiful moment on camera – a fact video that shows the pure joy of our children as they received new chairs for their classroom.

The moment they sat on those chairs, their faces lit up with excitement and happiness. For most of them, this was more than just furniture – it was a symbol of comfort, dignity, and hope. A symbol that says, “You matter.”

🎈 A Classroom Full of Dreams

In our Alingan classroom, learning has always been more than just books and lessons. It’s a place filled with laughter, games, teamwork, and curiosity. But despite the energy and smiles, many of our old chairs have become worn out over time.

Some are broken, some lean to one side, and some even tear the children’s clothes. Sitting for long hours becomes difficult – and that directly affects their focus and enthusiasm for learning.

Still, our children never complain. They come every day, ready to learn, ready to laugh, and ready to grow.

💺 We Need 10 More Chairs!

Right now, our classroom still has several old and damaged chairs that make studying uncomfortable and sometimes even painful for the children.

Many of these old chairs are loose, cracked, or too small for proper posture. Because of that, some of our kids end up with back pain, sore legs, or torn clothes – small but real struggles that make learning harder than it should be.

That’s why we urgently need 10 new chairs to replace these old ones.
These new chairs will not only make our classroom safer and more comfortable, but also more inviting – a space where every child can sit proudly and study with confidence.

Every new chair will become a seat for hope, a place for learning, and a symbol of care.

💛 Why It Matters

For most of us, a chair might seem like a small thing. But for our Alingan children, it represents comfort, focus, and dignity. When they sit comfortably, they can learn better, participate with more energy, and dream bigger.

Each new chair creates a ripple of positive change – turning a small classroom into a joyful learning space full of laughter and possibilities.

🌍 A Community of Hope

What makes Alingan special is the sense of togetherness – how the community, volunteers, and children all work hand in hand. Every contribution, no matter how small, adds a new spark to this journey of hope.

When we receive a new chair, it’s not just wood and metal; it’s a seat for a dreamer.
It’s a reminder that learning should always be joyful and full of dignity.

🌱 Join Us in Making a Difference

We believe that real change starts with simple acts of kindness. You can help by supporting our initiative to bring 10 new chairs for our little learners.

Your support will not only bring comfort but also strengthen their confidence and motivation to continue learning with passion and pride.

Let’s bring smiles through fun and learning. 💛

Where Hope Lives: Jannat’s Slum Story

Support Posted on Sat, September 20, 2025 12:38:01

In the narrow lanes of Korail Slum in Dhaka, life is a daily struggle. Among thousands of children growing up in hardship, one little girl stands out-her name is Jannat.

Jannat is not just another child of Korail; she is a symbol of courage, hope, and unshakable dreams. Despite living in one of the toughest environments, she carries within her a dream that lights up even the darkest corners of her life-to one day become a doctor.

A Childhood of Struggles

Life has not been kind to Jannat. With her father gone, her mother is left to shoulder the unbearable weight of keeping the family afloat. Every day brings new financial worries—sometimes even a single meal is uncertain. Education, for many in her situation, would be a luxury.

But Jannat refuses to let go of her dream. She sits in her small, dimly lit room, books spread out in front of her, fighting sleep, hunger, and the noise of a crowded slum—believing that her studies are her only way out.

The Dream That Keeps Her Going

Jannat’s dream is not just about herself. She has seen her neighbors, friends, and even her own family suffer without proper medical care. She has seen illnesses worsen simply because people could not afford to see a doctor. That is why she dreams of wearing a white coat one day, of holding a stethoscope, and of ensuring that no one around her has to suffer without treatment.

Her dream is born from pain—but it is also filled with love, compassion, and the courage to change her world.

Why Her Story Matters

When we hear stories like Jannat’s, it’s easy to feel empathy for a moment and then move on with our lives. But for Jannat, this isn’t a passing moment—it’s her everyday reality.

Every book she holds, every exam she attempts, every tear she wipes away, is part of a battle she is fighting not to give up. What she needs is a hand to hold, a chance to learn, and a world that believes in her potential.

How You Can Help
