Children Express Their Dreams Through Art

Activities Posted on Fri, May 22, 2026 13:12:02

Eid is a time of joy, celebration, and togetherness. This year, Alingan Foundation organized a special Eid Drawing Competition for children living in Korail slum, creating an opportunity for them to express their creativity, imagination, and dreams through art.

The event brought together enthusiastic young participants who filled their drawings with color, emotion, and personal stories. Each artwork reflected a unique perspective, allowing the children to share how they see the world around them.

Art Beyond Paper

The drawing competition was not just about creating beautiful pictures. It was an opportunity for children to express their thoughts, hopes, and cultural identity in a creative way.

Some children drew peaceful village scenes, reflecting memories or dreams of rural life. Others filled their pages with blue skies, colorful birds, green fields, and natural landscapes. Many created Eid Mubarak artwork to celebrate the spirit of Eid and the happiness that comes with the festival.

Several participants chose to draw things they love most, while others illustrated their dreams for the future. Through simple drawings and bright colors, the children shared stories that words alone could not fully express.

Celebrating Creativity and Imagination

Every child has a unique voice, and art can be one of the most powerful ways to express it. The competition encouraged children to think creatively, build confidence, and proudly share their ideas with others.

Their artwork showcased imagination, talent, and optimism. Despite the challenges many of them face in daily life, their drawings reflected hope, happiness, and the desire for a brighter future.

Preserving Culture Through Art

Many drawings also highlighted cultural traditions and Eid celebrations. From festive greetings to family gatherings and community life, the children captured moments that are important to them and their communities.

These artworks serve as reminders that creativity exists everywhere and that every child deserves opportunities to learn, create, and express themselves.

Why Activities Like This Matter

Creative activities play an important role in children’s development. They encourage self-expression, improve confidence, and provide a positive environment where children can explore their talents.

For many children in underserved communities, events like this offer valuable opportunities to participate, learn new skills, and experience the joy of being recognized for their efforts.

At Alingan Foundation, we believe every child deserves the chance to dream, create, and be heard.

A Day Filled with Smiles

The Eid Drawing Competition was more than just an event. It was a celebration of creativity, culture, and childhood. The smiles on the children’s faces and the stories behind their drawings made the day truly memorable.

We are grateful to everyone who supports our efforts to create meaningful experiences for children and help them discover their potential.

What happens when children who grow up in narrow urban settlements get the opportunity to see their country from a wider lens?

For many underprivileged children, life is often confined within a few streets, familiar faces, and daily survival routines. Opportunities to explore, observe, and learn beyond textbooks are rare. This study tour was not simply a day outside-it was a doorway to awareness, dignity, and possibility.

The Journey Begins: Learning Through the Bus Window

This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is 20260124_090752-scaled.jpg

The day started with a simple bus ride through the busy streets of Dhaka. But for the children, it was much more than transportation. Sitting by the windows, they observed traffic signals, tall buildings, roadside vendors, offices, and people rushing through their daily lives.

The road itself became a classroom. As the bus moved from one location to another, curiosity grew. Questions emerged naturally-about the city, about work, about how everything connects. Exposure, even through a window, began reshaping how they viewed their surroundings.

Discovering Identity at the National Museum

This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is 20260124_114715-scaled.jpg

At the National Museum, Bangladesh unfolded before their eyes. They encountered representations of rivers, hills, forests, oceans, wildlife, and rural life. Exhibits depicting farmers cultivating land, fishermen casting nets, traditional markets, boats, tools, and cultural artifacts showed them a deeper reality of their nation.

They saw the Sundarbans ecosystem, native flowers, birds, elephants, and the powerful symbol of the hilsa fish. Each gallery introduced a new layer of identity.

For children who rarely travel beyond their communities, seeing the vastness of their country in one place built a sense of belonging. They were not separate from this history—they were part of it.

Nature, Rest, and Reflection

Later, the group visited Ramna Park. The open greenery, birds in flight, and the playful sight of a squirrel brought visible joy. Nature offered them breathing space.

By evening, at Suhrawardy Udyan, the energy softened. Tired feet rested, but minds remained active. Moving from one place to another throughout the day, the children experienced not only physical travel but mental expansion.

More Than a Tour – A Lesson in Dignity

This initiative was never about charity.

It was about access.

Access to knowledge.
Access to exposure.
Access to national identity.

Children from disadvantaged backgrounds deserve the same opportunity to see, learn, and imagine a bigger future. A single day of meaningful exposure can plant seeds of confidence and aspiration that last a lifetime.

When society invests in educational exposure for underprivileged children, it strengthens not only individuals but the nation itself.

Why Educational Exposure Matters for Slum Children

Research consistently shows that experiential learning strengthens cognitive development, curiosity, and long-term ambition. For children growing up in poverty, real-world exposure is critical to breaking psychological barriers.

Seeing museums, parks, and national heritage sites reinforces:

  • A sense of belonging
  • Cultural identity
  • Social awareness
  • Motivation for education
  • Confidence in dreaming bigger

If stories like this inspire you, consider sharing the documentary and supporting initiatives that expand educational opportunities for underprivileged children in Bangladesh. Awareness is the first step toward building a more inclusive society where every child has the chance to learn beyond limits.

The Karail Slum Fire – The Devastating Story of Shahida and Her Disabled Daughter

Activities, Support, Uncategorised Posted on Thu, November 27, 2025 16:27:23

A massive fire recently broke out in the Karail slum in Dhaka, destroying over 2,000 homes in just minutes. Families already struggling with poverty suddenly lost everything.
Among these families is Shahida, a mother of a disabled daughter, whose heartbreaking story reflects the silent suffering of thousands.

🔥 The Night of the Fire: When Life Turned Into Ashes

It was early evening when flames erupted unexpectedly in the slum. Within moments, strong winds pushed the fire across rows of homes, leaving people no time to save their belongings.

Shahida had only one instinct —
“Save my daughter first.”

Amid chaos, crying children, and collapsing tin homes, she carried her disabled daughter to safety.
She couldn’t save a single item from her home.

The fire stole everything — except her hope to protect her child.

🔥 Aftermath: Life on a Pile of Ashes

When the flames finally stopped, the sight was unimaginable.
Blackened ruins. Burned utensils. Piles of melted belongings.
Families searching desperately for anything salvageable.

Shahida’s family lost:

  • Their house
  • Clothing
  • Everyday essentials
  • Food
  • Savings
  • Documents
  • Medicines

For a day-laborer family living in extreme poverty, this loss is not just physical — it pushes them to the edge of survival.

🔥 Raising a Disabled Child: Pain That Doubles in Crisis

Taking care of a disabled child in a slum environment is incredibly difficult.
After the fire, everything became harder:

  • No stable shelter
  • No safe place for the child
  • No bed or mattress
  • No cooking tools
  • No privacy
  • Increased emotional stress

Shahida now carries the burden of rebuilding while ensuring constant care for her daughter — a task that feels impossible without support.

🔥 A Mother’s Strength: Hope Against All Odds

Even after losing everything, Shahida refuses to give up.

She says:
“I have to stay strong for my daughter. As long as she is alive, I cannot break.”

Her resilience is a reminder that even in the darkest moments, love and hope still survive.

🎬 To understand her struggle fully, watch the full documentary story here:

💛 How We Can Help

Tragedies like this require collective support. You can help in many meaningful ways:

  • Share their story
  • Provide clothing or daily essentials
  • Offer food, water, or medicine
  • Help temporary shelter efforts
  • Support NGOs working on the ground
  • Spread awareness about the victims’ needs

Even small acts of kindness can bring light back into a broken life.

A Chair Full of Hope: Alingan’s Story of Joy and Learning

Activities Posted on Wed, November 12, 2025 13:56:46
Alingan students

At Alingan, every small step brings a big smile. Recently, we captured a beautiful moment on camera – a fact video that shows the pure joy of our children as they received new chairs for their classroom.

The moment they sat on those chairs, their faces lit up with excitement and happiness. For most of them, this was more than just furniture – it was a symbol of comfort, dignity, and hope. A symbol that says, “You matter.”

🎈 A Classroom Full of Dreams

In our Alingan classroom, learning has always been more than just books and lessons. It’s a place filled with laughter, games, teamwork, and curiosity. But despite the energy and smiles, many of our old chairs have become worn out over time.

Some are broken, some lean to one side, and some even tear the children’s clothes. Sitting for long hours becomes difficult – and that directly affects their focus and enthusiasm for learning.

Still, our children never complain. They come every day, ready to learn, ready to laugh, and ready to grow.

💺 We Need 10 More Chairs!

Right now, our classroom still has several old and damaged chairs that make studying uncomfortable and sometimes even painful for the children.

Many of these old chairs are loose, cracked, or too small for proper posture. Because of that, some of our kids end up with back pain, sore legs, or torn clothes – small but real struggles that make learning harder than it should be.

That’s why we urgently need 10 new chairs to replace these old ones.
These new chairs will not only make our classroom safer and more comfortable, but also more inviting – a space where every child can sit proudly and study with confidence.

Every new chair will become a seat for hope, a place for learning, and a symbol of care.

💛 Why It Matters

For most of us, a chair might seem like a small thing. But for our Alingan children, it represents comfort, focus, and dignity. When they sit comfortably, they can learn better, participate with more energy, and dream bigger.

Each new chair creates a ripple of positive change – turning a small classroom into a joyful learning space full of laughter and possibilities.

🌍 A Community of Hope

What makes Alingan special is the sense of togetherness – how the community, volunteers, and children all work hand in hand. Every contribution, no matter how small, adds a new spark to this journey of hope.

When we receive a new chair, it’s not just wood and metal; it’s a seat for a dreamer.
It’s a reminder that learning should always be joyful and full of dignity.

🌱 Join Us in Making a Difference

We believe that real change starts with simple acts of kindness. You can help by supporting our initiative to bring 10 new chairs for our little learners.

Your support will not only bring comfort but also strengthen their confidence and motivation to continue learning with passion and pride.

Let’s bring smiles through fun and learning. 💛
