Two Sisters Refuse to Give Up on Their Dream

Support Posted on Mon, June 15, 2026 11:15:00

Every child deserves the opportunity to learn, dream, and build a better future. Yet for many families living in Korail Slum, Dhaka, education is not simply a right-it is a daily struggle. Poverty, limited income, and rising living costs force countless children to fight for an education that many others take for granted.

Among these children are two young sisters who continue to dream of becoming doctors. Their story reflects the determination, resilience, and hope that exist even in the most challenging circumstances.

Life Inside Korail Slum

Korail Slum is one of the largest informal settlements in Dhaka, where thousands of families work hard every day just to survive. Most households depend on unstable, low-income jobs that barely cover essential living expenses.

The sisters’ father works in a small scrap shop, earning just enough to support the family’s basic needs. After paying for food, rent, and other daily necessities, very little remains for educational expenses.

Despite these financial hardships, the family continues to value education and encourages the girls to keep studying.

A Dream to Become Doctors

The two sisters share one powerful dream-they want to become doctors.

Their goal is inspired by the healthcare challenges they witness every day in their community. Many people living in Korail struggle to access proper medical treatment due to limited healthcare facilities and financial barriers.

The sisters believe that one day they can return as qualified doctors and help improve the lives of people in their own neighborhood.

The Hidden Cost of Education

For families living in poverty, education involves much more than classroom learning.

Expenses such as school admission fees, uniforms, books, coaching, transportation, and examination costs often become overwhelming obstacles. These financial pressures cause many children to leave school before completing their education.

The story of these two sisters represents the reality faced by many children across urban slums in Bangladesh, where talent and determination alone are often not enough without financial stability.

Hope That Refuses to Fade

Although their journey is difficult, the sisters continue to study with hope and determination. Their dream reminds us that education has the power to transform lives, strengthen communities, and create opportunities for future generations.

Their story is not simply about poverty-it is about courage, resilience, and refusing to give up despite countless challenges.

Mim Akter – A Little Girl with a Big Dream

Activities, Support Posted on Mon, October 13, 2025 09:29:55

In the heart of Dhaka’s bustling city, inside the narrow lanes of Korail slum, lives a little girl named Mim Akter — a fourth-grade student with a dream that’s far bigger than her surroundings.

Her dream?
To become a doctor someday.
A dream that shines brightly even amid poverty, illness, and countless daily struggles.

✨ The Best Student of Alingan Foundation

In September, Mim was proudly recognized as the “Best Student of the Month” at Alingan Foundation.

Why?
Because she comes to class regularly, studies sincerely, participates in every activity, and inspires her friends through her discipline and enthusiasm.
To celebrate her dedication, we encouraged her with love, appreciation, and a small gift of hope. 🎁

💔 Fighting Hard, Dreaming Harder

Mim’s family faces the harsh realities of slum life.
Her father works as a daily laborer, her mother as a housemaid.
They struggle every day — with financial hardship, illness, and uncertainty.

Yet, Mim never gives up.
She studies every morning before school, attends classes with a smile, and whispers to herself:

“One day, I’ll become a doctor and help sick people.”

Her determination is stronger than her circumstances.
