A Story of Dignity, Survival, and Hope

Support Posted on Wed, June 10, 2026 11:02:00

Aging is often associated with peace, family, and the opportunity to enjoy the later years of life. For many elderly people living in poverty, however, old age becomes a daily struggle to meet even the most basic needs.

In the heart of Korail Slum, Dhaka, lives Babul, a man over 70 years old. After suffering paralysis that affected one arm and one leg, he can no longer walk or carry out daily tasks without assistance. Simple activities that many of us take for granted have become significant challenges.

Living with him is his sister, Anguri, who is around 60 years old. Despite her own age, she continues to support her brother as they face life’s hardships together. Once surrounded by family, they now spend their days alone, with their children no longer by their side.

Every day brings new worries. Finding enough food, paying house rent, and dealing with unreliable gas, water, and electricity services have become part of their daily reality. Yet, through every challenge, they continue to live with patience, resilience, and dignity.

Their story reminds us that poverty is not just about lacking material resources—it is also about the silent struggles that often remain unseen. Behind every small home is a human story filled with hope, perseverance, and the desire to live with dignity.

By sharing stories like Babul and Anguri’s, we hope to raise awareness about the realities faced by many elderly people living in vulnerable communities. Compassion begins with understanding, and understanding begins with listening.

Korail Slum: A Story of Survival

Support Posted on Mon, May 18, 2026 13:05:50

Life in Korail slum Bangladesh reveals a side of urban life that many people rarely see. Beyond the busy streets and modern buildings of Dhaka are communities where thousands of people face daily challenges that often go unnoticed. For many elderly residents, growing old means facing poverty, illness, and uncertainty with very little support.

This documentary shares the story of an elderly woman living in Korail, one of Dhaka’s largest informal settlements. After losing her husband, she now spends most of her days alone. Although she has a daughter, the realities of marriage, financial hardship, and family responsibilities make regular support difficult. As a result, she depends largely on occasional help from neighbors and kind-hearted individuals to continue her daily life.

Growing Old in Poverty

For many people, old age is expected to bring rest, stability, and family care. However, life in Korail slum Bangladesh tells a different story. Many elderly residents continue to struggle for basic necessities long after their working years have passed.

Limited income opportunities, rising living costs, and inadequate social protection create serious challenges. Without savings or reliable support systems, everyday survival can become a constant concern.

The woman featured in this documentary represents many others who face similar circumstances. Her story highlights the reality that aging can become especially difficult when combined with poverty and isolation.

Living with Illness Without Proper Treatment

One of the most difficult aspects of her situation is her ongoing heart condition. Despite experiencing serious health problems, financial limitations prevent her from receiving the medical care she needs.

Access to healthcare remains a significant challenge for many low-income families. Medical expenses, transportation costs, and long-term treatment often remain out of reach. As a result, many people continue living with untreated conditions that affect their quality of life and overall well-being.

Her experience reflects a broader issue affecting vulnerable communities across Bangladesh, where healthcare access and long-term support remain uncertain for many elderly individuals.

A Story of Dignity and Endurance

While poverty is a major part of this story, it is not the only story being told.

Life in Korail slum Bangladesh is also a story of resilience, dignity, and determination. Despite facing illness, loneliness, and financial hardship, this elderly woman continues to move forward each day.

Her strength reminds us that behind every statistic about poverty is a real person with a lifetime of experiences, memories, hopes, and struggles. These human stories deserve to be heard and understood.

Why Awareness Matters

Urban poverty is often discussed through numbers and reports, but personal stories help us understand its true impact. By listening to the experiences of people living in vulnerable communities, we can develop greater empathy and awareness of the challenges they face.

Documentaries like this provide an opportunity to see the human side of social issues and encourage meaningful conversations about dignity, support, and community responsibility.

Aging in Silence: A Forgotten Life in Karail Slum

Support Posted on Wed, January 07, 2026 05:59:31

What happens when old age arrives, but care and companionship never do? In the heart of Dhaka’s Karail slum lives Karimon, a woman over ninety years old, quietly facing a reality that many prefer not to acknowledge. Her story reflects a painful truth about aging in poverty-where time slows the body, but the world moves on without looking back.

Karimon has children of her own, yet in this fragile stage of life, none remain beside her. As her strength fades, daily survival depends on the kindness of neighbors. Simple tasks such as eating, walking, or resting are no longer possible without help. Among those around her, one man has become her greatest support. Though not related by blood, she calls him her son. Through this bond, we see that humanity often steps in where family responsibility fails.

Life in urban slums strips people of comfort and security, but for elderly women, it also takes away visibility. Aging voices grow softer, needs remain unmet, and loneliness deepens. Poverty intensifies this isolation, leaving older individuals dependent on informal compassion rather than structured care or social protection.

We documented Karimon’s life to ensure her story is not lost in silence. You can watch her story here:

This film is not meant to shock or accuse. It is meant to remind us that dignity does not disappear with age, and that resilience often survives even in abandonment. Karimon’s quiet strength challenges us to rethink responsibility-not only as families, but as a society.

If this story moved you, please pause for a moment and ask yourself: What would life feel like at ninety, with no one to depend on? Some people wish to help but do not know how. If you feel connected to Karimon’s story and want to support her or others like her, your kindness can make a real difference.
